What is a hologram?
At the crossroads where art meets science, where images become matter and light, HOLOLAB-FACTORY was born.Founded in 2022 by two holography enthusiasts, this non-profit organization invites you on a fascinating journey into the world of holograms—an adventure where the boundaries between imagination and reality begin to blur.Imagine a world where iridescent images, both luminous and radiant, come to life before your eyes and project themselves into space with incredible depth… This is the magic of holography!
Holography is a technique that allows the creation of three-dimensional images using light produced by a laser.A hologram is not a conventional image: it records the way light propagates and reflects around an object. This enables it to capture the shape and spatial position of the object. To achieve this, a laser beam is optically split into two. The first, called the reference beam, is directed onto a photosensitive plate. The second beam illuminates the object, and the reflected light also reaches the same plate. When these two beams meet, they create very fine and complex interference patterns that contain all the information about the object’s shape, color, depth, and position.
These interference patterns, invisible to the naked eye and recorded on the holographic plate, form the hologram.Unlike a conventional photograph, which only captures light intensity, a hologram also records phase information. This makes it possible, during reconstruction, to reproduce the depth and spatial position of the object. When the holographic plate is illuminated again, the diffraction of light by the recorded fringe pattern reconstructs a light wave identical to the one originally reflected by the object. The object then appears in three dimensions—not on the plate itself, but behind it, exactly where it was during recording. It can be observed through the holographic plate, much like looking through a window.
